TLDR Higher glucocorticoids in hair are linked to increased obesity measures like waist size.
The systematic review and meta-analysis investigated the relationship between long-term glucocorticoids in hair (HairGC) and obesity measures such as BMI, waist circumference (WC), and waist-hip ratio (WHR) across all ages. Analyzing 26 studies with a total of 11,635 participants, the study found a consistent positive association between HairGC and these obesity measures, particularly highlighting the clinical relevance of the relationship between hair cortisone (HairE) and WC. The findings suggested that increased central adiposity might be linked to an altered setpoint of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis.
