Influence of the Hair Growth Cycle on the Glyceride Content of Whole Mouse Skin

TLDR Glyceride levels in mouse skin are higher during hair growth.
The study investigated the glyceride content in whole mouse skin during the hair growth cycle using adult male C57 Black mice. By initiating synchronous hair growth through plucking, researchers collected skin samples at various stages of the cycle. They found that during the anagen phase, the glyceride content was nearly double that of the telogen phase. This suggests that cutaneous glycerides might serve as significant energy sources for hair proliferation and follicle development, although the relationship between glyceride accumulation and hair growth activity remains uncertain.

A sugar gel called 2-deoxy-D-ribose (2dDR) shows potential for promoting hair regrowth by increasing blood supply to hair follicles, similar to Minoxidil, but its effectiveness in humans is unproven. It may benefit those who don't tolerate Minoxidil, but it is not a replacement for treatments like Finasteride or RU58841.

RU58841, oral and topical minoxidil, finasteride, and ketoconazole shampoo led to significant hair regrowth, though some suspect a hair transplant. Concerns about RU58841's side effects, like anxiety and heart issues, were discussed.
