Assessment of the Quality of the Healing Process in Experimentally Induced Skin Lesions Treated with Autologous Platelet Concentrate Associated or Unassociated with Allogeneic Mesenchymal Stem Cells: Preliminary Results in a Large Animal Model

    This study evaluated the healing process of full-thickness skin lesions in sheep using platelet-rich plasma (PRP) with or without mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). Three sheep were used to assess the treatments through clinical, histopathological, and molecular analyses. Results showed that both treatments improved wound healing compared to untreated wounds, with reduced inflammation, increased re-epithelialization, and better granulation tissue maturation. The combined PRP and MSC treatment notably regulated collagen expression, leading to better skin structure and organization. Overall, the combined treatment closely resembled the restoration of healthy skin, indicating its potential effectiveness in regenerative medicine.
