TLDR Hibiscus leaf ointment helps hair growth and reduces UV skin damage in rats.
The study explored the effects of hibiscus leaf simplicia ointment on hair growth and skin health in albino rats exposed to UV light. The ointment, particularly at a 40% concentration, significantly promoted hair growth and reduced UV-induced skin damage, likely due to its antioxidant properties. It maintained normal blood parameters and reduced inflammation markers, although it did not preserve normal skin histology under UV exposure. The ointment was found to be non-irritating with an LD50 value greater than 2000 mg/kg BW, indicating safety for dermal use. Further research is needed to understand the mechanisms of skin protection and optimize the formulation.
