Hirsutism is a condition in females characterized by excessive hair growth in a male-pattern distribution, often leading to emotional distress and prompting dermatological consultations. It is commonly linked to androgen excess from the ovaries or adrenal glands and is frequently associated with metabolic disorders such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Hirsutism can also occur idiopathically, as a side effect of medication, or due to rare underlying medical conditions. The article reviews the diagnosis and treatment options for managing hirsutism.
