TLDR The dressing effectively fights infection and promotes healing in diabetic wounds.
The study evaluated a dual-functional dressing made from quaternized chitosan and magnesium for treating diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs). The dressing demonstrated significant antibacterial properties, effectively eradicating MRSA and MRSE, and promoted wound healing by facilitating the migration of human dermal fibroblasts and endothelial cells, as well as stimulating angiogenesis. In vivo tests on a diabetic rat model confirmed its anti-infection and wound-healing potential. The dressing showed promise for clinical application due to its ability to improve DFU treatment outcomes and its biocompatibility, addressing a critical need in managing this common diabetes complication.
