This review highlights the significant impact of acne vulgaris on both physiological and psychological aspects of health, emphasizing its role beyond a mere cosmetic issue. It synthesizes research from dermatology, endocrinology, immunology, and psychoneuroimmunology to explore the complex interactions between factors like sebum production, hormone imbalance, and Propionibacterium acnes colonization in acne development. The study also examines oxidative stress, immune response, and the link between endocrine issues and acne severity. Additionally, it addresses the psychological effects, such as self-esteem issues and reduced quality of life. The review aims to inform future research and therapeutic strategies by integrating multidisciplinary approaches to better manage acne's physiological complexities and improve patient well-being.
