TLDR Strainful life events may significantly trigger alopecia areata.
This study examined the role of life events and associated strain in the onset of alopecia areata (AA) in 100 patients. It found that 82% of patients experienced at least one strainful life event within two years before AA onset, with 50% of these events being among the most strainful in each SRRS category. Additionally, 60% of life events were rated as more strainful than the standard SRRS ratings. The findings suggest that strainful life events may significantly contribute to AA onset, emphasizing the need to understand these events to improve patient care and psychological health. Future research should focus on interventions to mitigate the impact of these strainful events.
