TLDR More symptoms during initial COVID infection increase the risk of long-term effects.
The study examined long COVID symptoms in 73 twice-vaccinated hospital employees in Austria who had post-vaccination SARS-CoV-2 infections. It found that 31.5% of participants reported persistent symptoms, such as fatigue, dysgeusia, dysosmia, and headache, at least eight weeks after infection. Those with more than five symptoms during the acute phase were four times more likely to develop long COVID. The study emphasized that despite vaccination, there was still a risk for long COVID, especially in individuals with elevated BMI and pre-existing lung disorders. The observational nature of the study limited causal conclusions, and the findings might not apply to more severe cases or different demographics.
