Evaluation of the Expression Level of miRNA 155 in Whole Blood as a New Biomarker in Patients Diagnosed with Alopecia Areata

Sajjad M. Alfadul, Khaled Obaid, Yaqdhan T. Alnomani
This study investigated the expression level of miR-155 in whole blood as a potential biomarker for alopecia areata (AA) by comparing 40 AA patients with 40 healthy controls using real-time PCR. The results showed a statistically significant difference in miR-155 levels between the two groups (P < 0.001), suggesting that miR-155 plays a significant role in the pathogenesis of AA. Additionally, there was a negative association between miR-155 and certain clinical variables, indicating its potential as a biomarker for this autoimmune condition.
