Myrtus communis Leaf Extract Modulates IL-1α and VEGF Gene Expressions in HaCaT Cells: Probable Implications for Its Beneficial Effects in Hair Loss and Wound Healing

    Pekmezci E, Türkoğlu M
TLDR Myrtus communis leaf extract may help with hair loss and wound healing.
The study investigates the effects of Myrtus communis leaf extract on gene expressions related to hair loss and wound healing in human keratinocytes (HaCaT cells). The extract was found to contain 1255 ppm of total phenolic substances. It significantly downregulated IL-1α and upregulated VEGF gene expressions, suggesting potential benefits for non-cicatricial hair loss and chronic wound healing. These findings align with traditional uses of the plant, though further research is needed to fully understand the mechanisms involved.
