TLDR Beetroot extract nanogel may help treat hair loss caused by testosterone.
The study developed a nanogel from Beta vulgaris L. (beetroot) extract and tested its effectiveness in treating testosterone-induced alopecia in 24 male Swiss albino mice. The nanogel, prepared by ionic gelation method and incorporated in carbopol 934 gel, had a particle size of 274 nm. The extract contained quercetin and stigmasterol, with drug entrapment efficiency ranging from 56 to 85% for quercetin and 43-79% for stigmasterol. The nanogel was found to be stable and showed sustained release in vitro. The study found that a 5% Beta vulgaris hydroalcoholic extract nanogel showed significant hair growth initiation, decreased testosterone levels, increased total protein content, increased anagen/telogen ratio, and increased hair follicular density compared to the control group, suggesting its potential to treat testosterone-induced alopecia.

community Better Than Minoxidil? Topical Sodium Valproate

      in Research/Science  51 upvotes 11 months ago
Topical sodium valproate may promote hair growth by inhibiting GSK3β, allowing beta-catenin to proliferate, but it has potential side effects and requires more research. The conversation also mentions skepticism about a product called Vdphlo1, which includes sodium valproate and other ingredients.

community (Topic) does saw palmetto actually work?

in Chat  1 upvotes 1 year ago
Saw palmetto can help reduce DHT levels and may work in combination with other supplements like beta sitosterol and pygume, but it's less effective than finasteride. Additional treatments like pumpkin seed extract, zinc, biotin, essential oils, scalp massages, and micro-needling can support hair health, but should not replace existing treatments like finasteride.

community Natural DHT Blockers instead of fin

      in Finasteride/Dutasteride  4 upvotes 5 years ago
The conversation discusses using natural DHT blockers like saw palmetto, beta sitosterol, pumpkin seed oil, pygeum africanum bark, and nettle root as alternatives to finasteride for hair loss, with mixed opinions on their effectiveness. Some users report minimal improvement with natural options and better results with finasteride or dutasteride, despite concerns about potential side effects.
