Obstruction of the formation of granulation tissue leads to delayed wound healing after scald burn injury in mice

TLDR Delayed wound healing in scald burns is due to impaired granulation tissue formation.
The study investigated wound healing in mice after scald burn injuries, focusing on second-degree deep scald (SDDS) and third-degree scald (TDS) wounds. It found that wound healing was faster in the control group with excisional wounds (Cut group) compared to the SDDS and TDS groups. The Cut group showed greater re-epithelialization, granulation tissue formation, and inflammatory infiltration. Immunohistochemistry indicated higher levels of healing-related factors in the Cut group. Despite slower healing, the SDDS group had a healing quality similar to normal tissue, with favorable collagen ratios and structural properties. The study concluded that impaired granulation tissue formation led to delayed wound healing in scald burn injuries in mice.
