TLDR Periorbital melanosis may be linked to metabolic syndrome.
This study investigated the potential link between periorbital melanosis (POM) and metabolic syndrome by evaluating serum adiponectin levels and lipid profiles in 80 participants (40 with POM and 40 healthy controls). Results showed that patients with POM had a significantly higher BMI and elevated cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels compared to controls. Although the mean serum adiponectin level was lower in POM patients, the difference was not statistically significant. The findings suggest an association between POM and metabolic syndrome, highlighting the importance of comprehensive management of POM to potentially improve health outcomes.
