TLDR Polyethylene glycol improves the extraction of beneficial compounds from horsetail.
The study aimed to determine the phenolic compounds in water extracts of Equisetum arvense (horsetail) using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The research found that using polyethylene glycol and an ultrasonic bath for extraction resulted in the highest content of phenolic compounds, specifically hydroxycinnamic acids and flavonoids. The total detected phenolic compounds in this method were approximately 47.21 µg/ml. These findings suggest that polyethylene glycol can enhance the release of biologically active substances in E. arvense water extracts, which are used in traditional medicine and cosmetics for their therapeutic properties.
