TLDR Horsetail extract is promising for cosmetics due to its benefits for hair and skin, but needs more standardization and validation.
Horsetail (Equisetum arvense) is a medicinal plant widely used in cosmetic formulations due to its rich phytochemical composition and biological activities. This review highlights its antioxidant, anti-aging, anti-inflammatory, and wound-healing properties, which are attributed to its high content of silica, flavonoids, phenolic compounds, and saponins. Horsetail extract is beneficial for strengthening hair structure, boosting collagen production, and improving skin elasticity. It is incorporated into various cosmetic products like creams, gels, serums, and shampoos, showing promising stability and effectiveness. However, challenges remain in standardization, stability, and clinical validation. Overall, horsetail extract holds significant potential for innovative cosmeceutical applications.
