Platelet-Rich Plasma and Combination Therapies for Dry Eye Disease: Current Advances and Future Directions

    Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a promising treatment for dry eye disease (DED), enhancing corneal epithelial regeneration, reducing inflammation, and restoring glandular function. PRP's effectiveness is increased when combined with agents like hyaluronic acid or stem cells, improving tear film stability and tissue repair. A study with 30 patients showed that PRP combined with hyaluronic acid significantly improved tear volume and ocular surface health compared to hyaluronic acid alone. Despite positive outcomes, further research is needed to establish optimal protocols and ensure long-term safety. Future directions include integrating PRP with advanced materials or laser therapies to revolutionize DED management.
