Efficacy and Safety of Rb-bFGF in Hair Transplantation: A Prospective and Comparative Study

This study assessed the efficacy and safety of recombinant bovine basic fibroblast growth factor (rb-bFGF) in hair transplantation for 60 patients with moderate-to-severe androgenetic alopecia. The study found that rb-bFGF, when used with standard hair transplantation, improved follicle survival, hair density, and patient satisfaction compared to the control group. The rb-bFGF group showed better outcomes, including higher transplantation density, longer growth duration, and lower hair-loss rates at 3, 6, and 12 months postoperatively. Patient satisfaction was significantly higher in the rb-bFGF group (96.67% vs. 80.00%), and the complication rate was lower (20.00% vs. 83.33%). The study suggests rb-bFGF as a promising agent for enhancing hair transplantation outcomes, though it notes limitations such as the small sample size and short follow-up period, indicating the need for larger, longer-term studies.
