TLDR Resistance exercise improves body image in breast cancer survivors.
This scoping review explored the impact of resistance exercise and art therapy on body image in breast cancer survivors, including 8 studies with sample sizes from 15 to 234 participants. It found significant improvements in body image scores within groups, particularly favoring resistance exercise, though no studies combined both interventions. Art therapy improved quality of life but not significantly in body image compared to controls. The review highlighted the need for clearer definitions of body image, theory-informed research, and consideration of confounding variables. Preliminary evidence suggested that resistance exercise positively impacted body image, while further research was needed to assess art therapy's effectiveness and optimize intervention delivery.
