Psychosocial Effect of Appearance Changes Associated With Cancer: A Scoping Review

This scoping review synthesizes the psychosocial effects of appearance changes due to cancer and its treatment, highlighting significant challenges faced by survivors. Analyzing 26 studies, it identifies effects based on age and cancer type, as well as universal effects across different cancers and treatments. The review underscores a gap between the appearance-related needs of survivors and the care provided, emphasizing the necessity for further research and improved care strategies. It advocates for collaboration between healthcare and the beauty industry to better address these psychosocial challenges and enhance the quality of life for cancer survivors.
