TLDR The rs4541843 variant is linked to higher risk and severity of alopecia areata.
This study investigates the association between the rs4541843 G > A variant and alopecia areata (AA), involving 94 AA patients and 97 healthy controls. It found that the A/A genotype and A allele are more frequent in AA patients, with A/A carriers showing higher hsa-miR-182-5p levels correlating with disease severity. The study suggests that the rs4541843 variant and hsa-miR-182-5p expression could serve as molecular markers for AA diagnosis and severity assessment, with an AUC of 0.842, 88.5% sensitivity, and 89.6% specificity, indicating their diagnostic potential. Further functional studies are warranted.
