TLDR Low serum ferritin levels are significantly linked to diffuse hair loss.
In 2020, a cross-sectional study was conducted on 60 female patients aged between 15-45 years who were experiencing diffuse hair loss. The study aimed to evaluate the correlation between decreased serum ferritin levels, which indicate body iron stores, and diffuse hair loss. The results showed a significant correlation, with 65% of the subjects in an iron-deficient state, 20% in an iron-depleted state, 8.33% with adequate serum ferritin levels but lower than required for a normal hair cycle, and only 3.66% with normal ferritin levels. Therefore, the study concluded that diffuse hair loss was significantly associated with decreased serum ferritin levels.
