TLDR The compound improved hair growth and reduced hair loss.
The study investigated the effects of a sphingolipid-mimetic compound, specifically bis-oleamide isopropyl alcohol (BOI), on hair growth in 58 patients with mild pattern hair loss. Conducted as a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial over 6 months, participants in the experimental group applied 1% BOI lotion daily. Results showed a decrease in daily hair loss from 52.52 to 40.41 hairs, an increase in vertex hair density from 131.07 to 156.00, and an increase in frontal hair density from 104.21 to 124.10. Additionally, hair thickness and growth rate improved, suggesting that ceramide HS could be a promising treatment for pattern hair loss.
