TLDR Helping PCOS patients focus on hope and control can reduce depression.
The study examined the role of time perspective (TP) in mediating depressive symptoms in 148 women, 83 with PCOS and 65 healthy controls. It found that women with PCOS had more depressive symptoms, and a positive future TP significantly influenced these symptoms. A decrease in future orientation was linked to increased depression and a higher likelihood of having PCOS. The study concluded that future TP mediated the relationship between depression and PCOS, suggesting that fostering a positive future outlook could help manage depressive symptoms. It emphasized the need for psychoeducation and interdisciplinary care, despite limitations like a small sample size and self-reported data.
