Topical application of cellulose membrane for the treatment of non-healing venous leg ulcers

    The study evaluated the effect of a cellulose membrane on healing chronic venous leg ulcers (VLUs) in 100 patients, divided into two groups of 50. The experimental group received the cellulose membrane, while the control group received a standard antimicrobial calcium alginate dressing with silver. Results showed that the experimental group experienced significantly shorter healing times and greater ulcer area reduction compared to the control group. The findings suggest that cellulose-based biomaterials could be an effective and biocompatible alternative for managing VLUs, offering improved healing outcomes and potential benefits for patients and healthcare systems.
