TLDR Vogt–Koyanagi–Harada disease can cause rare hair growth on normally hairless thumb skin.
This case report documents a novel finding of vellus-like hair growth on the glabrous skin of the distal phalanx of the thumb in a 25-year-old woman with Vogt–Koyanagi–Harada disease (VKHD), a multisystem autoimmune disorder. The patient experienced this unusual hair growth twice over two years, each episode lasting 4 to 6 weeks, alongside auditory symptoms managed with low-dose prednisolone. This finding is significant as it expands the known integumentary manifestations of VKHD, which typically include alopecia, poliosis, and vitiligo, and highlights the potential role of autoantigens and immune dysregulation in such rare dermatological presentations.
