June 2026 in “International Journal of Drug Delivery Technology” This study explored the synthesis and characterization of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) derived from Pogostemon benghalensis extract, revealing their potential as antimicrobial, antioxidant, and anticancer agents. The AgNPs exhibited a crystalline structure with a particle size of 113.6 nm and demonstrated significant antibacterial activity, particularly against V. cholerae. Antioxidant tests showed concentration-dependent free radical scavenging abilities. In cytotoxicity tests on A549 lung cancer cells, the AgNPs were more effective at higher doses, with an IC₅₀ of 47 µg/mL, inducing apoptosis as evidenced by chromatin condensation and nuclear fragmentation. Overall, these findings suggest that AgNPs synthesized from P. benghalensis could be promising for medical applications.
