July 2024 in “British journal of surgery” Stem cell therapy shows promise for treating hair loss.
April 2026 in “Stem Cell Research & Therapy” This systematic review evaluated the efficacy and safety of five regenerative medicine modalities for androgenetic alopecia (AGA) across 20 clinical studies with 724 patients. Conditioned media (CM) was the most studied, showing improvements in hair density and thickness, especially when combined with minoxidil. Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) provided rapid and consistent results, particularly when used with hair transplantation. Stromal vascular fraction (SVF) showed outcomes comparable to or better than platelet-rich plasma (PRP). Extracellular vesicles (EV) and stem cell therapies demonstrated significant hair density improvements and follicle regeneration. All approaches reported only mild, transient adverse events. Despite promising results, the review highlights the need for larger, standardized trials to optimize regenerative strategies for AGA.
