October 2024 in “Indian Dermatology Online Journal” A 36-year-old man developed benign non-Langerhans cell histiocytosis (non-LCH) on the scalp after undergoing nine platelet-rich plasma (PRP) sessions for hair loss. The nodules appeared one year after the last PRP session and were characterized by CD68-positive histiocytes. Despite treatment with topical clobetasol cream, the nodules persisted but did not spread further, and most regressed spontaneously after six months. The study suggests that trauma and inflammation from PRP injections may trigger histiocytic infiltration, although the exact pathogenesis remains unclear. This case is notable as there were no previous reports of such a reaction following PRP treatment. Further research is needed to understand PRP's effects at the tissue level.
