Monocytes are a type of white blood cell that plays a crucial role in the immune system. They circulate in the bloodstream and, when they migrate into tissues, they differentiate into macrophages and dendritic cells, which are essential for phagocytosing pathogens and presenting antigens to T cells, respectively.
