May 2026 in “Journal of Medicinal Food” This study investigated the effects of orally administered hydrolyzed keratin peptide on hair growth in C57BL/6 mice and its cellular impact on human follicle dermal papilla cells and HaCaT keratinocytes. The results showed that the peptide promoted the transition from the telogen to anagen phase and increased the expression of proliferation markers in both male and female mice. Additionally, it upregulated growth factors and antioxidant enzymes in male mice. In vitro, the peptide enhanced the proliferation of human follicle dermal papilla cells by activating β-catenin and improved antioxidant capacity in both HaCaT keratinocytes and dermal papilla cells. These findings indicate that hydrolyzed keratin peptides could be a promising ingredient for promoting hair health through proliferative and antioxidant mechanisms.
