November 2020 in “UMM Institutional Repository (University of Maine at Machias)” The study investigated the antibacterial effects of white jasmine leaf extract (Jasminum sambac L.) on Propionibacterium acnes, the bacteria responsible for acne. Using a true experimental design, the research measured the inhibition zone diameters at various concentrations of the extract. Results showed that the inhibition zones varied with concentration: 25 μg/ml resulted in a 10.34 mm zone, 50 μg/ml in 2.36 mm, 100 μg/ml in 9.75 mm, 250 μg/ml in 8.14 mm, and 500 μg/ml in 10.95 mm. Clindamycin, a known antibiotic, produced a 28.55 mm inhibition zone, while the negative control with distilled water showed no inhibition. The findings suggested that white jasmine leaf extract had some antibacterial activity against P. acnes, though less effective than clindamycin, and could be used as a learning resource in biology education.
