Jakub Chodkowski, Filip Grabowski, Natalia Rulewska, Aleksandra Feruś
Anabolic steroid use is associated with significant health risks, affecting the cardiovascular, hepatic, endocrine, and musculoskeletal systems. Key health impacts include increased cardiovascular risks like hypertension, liver dysfunction such as hepatotoxicity, endocrine disturbances including testosterone suppression and infertility, and musculoskeletal injuries like tendon damage. Psychological effects, including aggression and mood changes, are also noted. Despite awareness of these dangers, misuse continues, driven by societal pressures and misinformation. The review emphasizes the need for healthcare providers to focus on prevention through education and support, and calls for future research on long-term effects and harm reduction strategies.
