TLDR The guideline provides recommendations for managing alopecia areata effectively.
The British Association of Dermatologists developed a living guideline for managing alopecia areata (AA), involving a group of 11 dermatologists, 1 psychologist, 2 individuals with AA, and a guideline preparation team. They reviewed studies up to October 2023 and formulated 49 management recommendations, 7 future research suggestions, and 11 hospital audit points. The guideline aims to address AA, which can cause patchy baldness and affect nails, with severe forms leading to total scalp (alopecia totalis) or complete body hair loss (alopecia universalis). An updated patient information leaflet is available on their website.
