TLDR The new minoxidil nanogel may be a better treatment for hair loss.
This study focused on creating a chitosan-based minoxidil nanogel for improved topical treatment of alopecia. Traditional minoxidil formulations face challenges like poor scalp retention and rapid drug release. The researchers used ionic gelation and a Box–Behnken design to optimize the nanogel, achieving a particle size of 135.4 nm, low polydispersity, high zeta potential, and 89.7% entrapment efficiency. The nanogel demonstrated skin-compatible pH, good spreadability, and sustained drug release over 48 hours, with better drug deposition compared to conventional solutions. This nanogel shows potential as an effective treatment for alopecia.
