TLDR Ethosomes could improve how well skin treatments work, but more research is needed on their safety and stability.
Ethosomes, composed of phospholipids and ethanol, are a versatile drug delivery system that can enhance drug penetration by increasing cell membrane fluidity and permeability. They have been used to improve the delivery and efficacy of various drugs, including those for hair loss, acne, and skin whitening. For hair loss, ethosomes have been investigated for delivering minoxidil and finasteride directly to hair follicles, showing improved efficacy compared to traditional methods. Similarly, for acne and skin hyperpigmentation, ethosomes have shown potential in delivering drugs directly to the affected area, improving their efficacy. However, despite their advantages, ethosomes have limitations such as complex preparation, limited stability, and potential skin irritation. More research is needed to confirm their safety and efficacy in these applications.
