TLDR Proper treatment and hygiene can effectively reduce ectoparasite infestations in Shih Tzu dogs.
The study focuses on diagnosing and treating ectoparasite infestations in dogs, specifically a 5 kg female Shih Tzu with skin issues, including itching, ulcers, and alopecia. Microscopic examination revealed the presence of Heterodoxus sp. and Rhipicephalus sanguineus. Treatment involved wormectin, diphenhydramine, Chlorpheniramine maleate, dexamethasone, and amoxicillin. After 2 weeks, the dog's pruritus score improved from 7/10 to 3/10, the ulcer healed, and hair regrowth was observed. Quarantining the dog, regular bathing, and maintaining cleanliness are recommended to prevent transmission and further infestations.
