The article discusses the treatment of ehrlichiosis in a 2-year-old mixed breed dog named Cio, who presented with itching and hair loss due to Ehrlichia sp. infection and Rhipicephalus sanguineus tick infestation. The treatment included symptomatic, causative, and supportive therapies: Diphenhydramine HCl for itching, doxycycline (10 mg/kg daily for 28 days) as an antibiotic, and Sangobion for anemia and thrombocytopenia. Additionally, the dog was bathed with a tick and flea shampoo containing Pyrethrin and Piperonyl. Post-treatment evaluation showed the dog was healthy, with no itching, hair loss, or tick infestation. The article recommends eradicating the tick vector in the dog's environment to prevent reinfection.
