Understanding Exosomes in Hair Regeneration

    Exosome-mediated interventions offer a promising new approach for treating alopecia by enhancing hair regeneration through mechanisms such as stimulating the Wnt/β-catenin pathway, promoting VEGF-regulated angiogenesis, and suppressing TGF-β/SMAD-mediated fibrosis. A review of 80 studies, including 11 clinical studies with over 330 patients, demonstrated significant improvements in hair density, shaft thickness, and patient satisfaction, with effects lasting up to 1 year. Novel delivery methods like microneedles and hydrogels further increased efficacy, and side effects were mild and transient. Despite these promising results, further standardization, regulatory approval, and large-scale trials are necessary for routine clinical use.
