TLDR Intermittent fasting, with or without probiotics, doesn't improve inflammation or stress markers in women with PCOS compared to calorie restriction.
This randomized, placebo-controlled trial with 90 women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) compared early time-restricted eating (eTRE) alone or with probiotics to a daily calorie restriction (DCR) diet over 8 weeks. All groups showed improvements in systolic blood pressure (SBP), C-reactive protein (CRP), and total antioxidant capacity (TAC), but there were no significant differences between groups in blood pressure and oxidative stress markers. The study concluded that both eTRE and DCR positively affect inflammation and antioxidant capacity, but adding probiotics did not provide extra benefits. Limitations include the short duration and small sample size, indicating a need for larger, longer-term studies.
