TLDR Regenerative therapies like PRP and exosomes show potential in hair transplantation but need more consistent evidence and standardized protocols.
This review examines adjunctive regenerative therapies in hair transplantation, particularly platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and exosomes. PRP shows moderate to strong evidence for improving hair density in androgenetic alopecia, with increases of 10–30 hairs/cm² in trials, but its effectiveness in transplantation varies due to inconsistent protocols. Exosomes show promise in preclinical studies but lack robust clinical validation. Emerging methods like low-level laser therapy and microneedling have variable efficacy. The review stresses the need for standardized protocols and outcome reporting to improve clinical translation and evidence quality, suggesting these therapies remain supportive or investigational rather than standard care.
