TLDR Dupilumab helped a 13-year-old regrow hair after alopecia totalis.
This case study highlights the successful use of dupilumab monotherapy in a 13-year-old male with alopecia totalis (AT) and atopic dermatitis (AD), who had not responded to conventional treatments. Initially presenting with alopecia areata (AA), the patient's condition progressed to AT despite various therapies. Dupilumab, an IL-4 and IL-13 antagonist approved for AD and asthma, was administered, resulting in significant hair regrowth on the scalp and eyebrows within several months. Complete hair regeneration was sustained 17 months after starting dupilumab. This case suggests that dupilumab could be a viable treatment option for pediatric patients with AA and comorbid AD, especially when other treatments have failed.
