Opportunities of SpruceSugar™ in Scalp Care Products

This study evaluated the effects of a treatment containing SpruceSugar™, a compound derived from Finnish spruce, on scalp moisture, moisture retention, and sebum secretion over approximately four weeks. Conducted with 14 volunteers, 9 used the SpruceSugar™ treatment while 5 used a control product. Measurements showed that the SpruceSugar™ group experienced slightly greater reductions in sebum levels and transepidermal water loss (TEWL) compared to the control group, suggesting potential benefits in balancing sebum production and enhancing skin barrier function. Both groups saw similar improvements in moisture content. Although differences were not statistically significant, SpruceSugar™ demonstrated promising properties as an ingredient in scalp cosmetic treatments, warranting further research to confirm its effects and support product development.
