TLDR Thymosin β4 may boost hair growth by aiding stem cell movement and blood vessel formation.
The study investigated the roles of thymosin β4 (Tβ4) in hair follicle growth and development, revealing its potential to enhance hair growth by promoting stem cell migration, differentiation, and angiogenesis. In mice, endogenous Tβ4 activated the hair follicle cycle, while exogenous Tβ4 increased hair growth rates and secondary follicle numbers in cashmere goats. Tβ4's influence on hair follicle growth involved MMP-2 synthesis, VEGF-induced angiogenesis, and Wnt signaling pathway activation. Despite these findings, the exact molecular mechanisms of Tβ4's effects on hair follicle growth were not fully understood, indicating a need for further research.
