TLDR Vegan exosome-like vesicles from microalgae improve skin and hair health, reducing wrinkles and enhancing elasticity.
The study evaluates vegan exosome-like biomimetic vesicles (EBVs) derived from microalgae for skin and hair follicle protection and rejuvenation. These EBVs mimic mammalian exosomes in structure and function, showing efficacy in skin renewal, wound healing, and hair follicle biology. In a placebo-controlled clinical study with 44 female participants, a 2% EBV formulation significantly improved skin wrinkles, elasticity, and radiance after 56 days. EBVs also demonstrated superior dermal penetration, accelerated wound healing, and provided protection against UV-A-induced skin damage. In hair follicle studies, EBVs supported anagen phase maintenance and increased proliferative activity, suggesting potential for hair growth and rejuvenation.
