June 2020 in “ACTA MEDICA IRANICA” Ovarian steroid cell tumors were rare and life-threatening, comprising about 0.1% of all primary ovarian tumors, and typically presented in premenopausal women with virilization. This case report described a 58-year-old postmenopausal woman who exhibited virilization symptoms and had elevated serum testosterone levels. Ultrasound revealed 2 follicles in the left ovary, and she underwent bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy and hysterectomy. Histology confirmed a benign steroid cell tumor. The occurrence of new-onset, rapidly progressing hyperandrogenism was rare in postmenopausal women, and diagnosis required consideration of adrenal and ovarian malignancies. Surgical treatment was effective for stromal luteoma, a rare benign ovarian tumor.
December 2006 in “Annales D Endocrinologie” Estrogen-progestin contraception lowers ovarian, endometrial, and colon cancer risk but may raise breast and cervical cancer risk, helps with menstrual and acne issues, and new methods are as effective as pills. Metformin helps overweight women with PCOS and insulin resistance, and dopamine agonists treat prolactinomas.
