Nine studies were included, with concerns about bias in six. The most frequently studied biomarker was the calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP), followed by serotonin. Significant effects of BoNT were reported in six studies, including decreased plasma levels of CGRP in chronic migraine and trigeminal neuralgia, changes in serotonin levels, and alterations in oxidative stress and inflammatory markers. Despite these findings, the evidence was rated as very low to moderate certainty.
