An inflammasome is a complex of proteins within cells that plays a crucial role in the immune system by detecting harmful stimuli, such as pathogens or stress signals. When activated, it triggers an inflammatory response by promoting the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines, which help to fight infections but can also contribute to inflammatory diseases if not properly regulated.
