This study investigates the cardiovascular risk in patients with lichen planopilaris (LPP), a type of chronic alopecia. Conducted with 115 LPP patients and 115 healthy controls, the research found that LPP patients have significantly higher levels of serum triglycerides, total cholesterol, LDL, and non-HDL cholesterol. They also exhibited higher atherogenic indexes, including the Atherogenic Index of Plasma, Castelli Risk Index I and II, and Atherogenic Coefficient, indicating a higher cardiovascular risk. The study suggests that systemic inflammation and dysregulation of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor signaling may contribute to these findings, highlighting the need for enhanced cardiovascular and lipid monitoring in LPP patients.
