April 2021 in “Regenerative Biomaterials” The study investigated the use of 3D bioprinted hydrogel scaffolds loaded with adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (ADSCs) and nitric oxide (NO) to promote healing in severe burn wounds. The 3D-ADSCs/NO scaffolds enhanced the migration and angiogenesis of Human Umbilical Vein Endothelial Cells (HUVECs) and accelerated wound healing in mice by promoting faster epithelialization and collagen deposition. Immunohistochemistry indicated increased neovascularization, supported by upregulated vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) mRNA in ADSCs. The findings suggested that the 3D-ADSC/NO hydrogel scaffold could effectively promote severe burn wound healing through increased neovascularization via the VEGF signaling pathway, presenting a promising strategy for treating severe burns.
